ONA - Oman Shipping Company (OSC) added Very Large Crude Carrier (VL-CC) Seeb, its 28th vessel, to its fleet on Saturday.
Seeb is designed and cons-tructed according to the latest international specifications and is the first vessel of this type manufactured by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company (DSMEC) to incorporate advanced ballast water treatment technology.
The syst-em complies with international conventions on protecting the environment from the effects of transportation of ballast water and sediment. The vessel has a 317,000 Deadweight Tonne (DWT) capa-city and is 133m long and 60m wide.
It is OSC's ninth VLCC to join service. The company now has a fleet of 28 vessels and an order book of 13 vessels to be delivered by 2012. The capacity of the current fleet is around 3.9mn DWT, and will increase to around 8mn DWT once the order book deliveries are completed.
The launch ceremony was held at the DSMEC premises and attended by OSC and DSMEC officials.
