Muscat: To capitalise on the excellent trade volume between Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council states, Oman is making every effort to market its own products to the GCC people. The total trade volume at the end of 2011 stood at OMR3.4 billion. After a successful entry into the Saudi Arabian market for Omani products, authorities announced that the second edition of the highly anticipated Omani Products Trade Exhibition would be held at the Doha Exhibition Centre, Doha, Qatar, on November 10-13.
At an event held on Tuesday at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry--in the presence of Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce & Industry, and Khalil Al Khonji, chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI)--Ayman bin Abdullah Al Hasani, OCCI deputy chairman and head of the organising committee for the exhibition, said, "Qatar offers immense potential for the sale of products from Oman. Everyone is aware of Qatar's development, and so, this is the right time to explore the country [as a market] for our products. We are targeting Qatar for our second Omani Products Trade Exhibition, which is specifically aimed at helping local firms get a stronger foothold in the GCC."
Sadiq Ahmed Khan, director of B2B Events and Marketing at Oman International Trade and Exhibitions, said, "Qatar has one of the highest rates of GDP per capita in the world. Oman's exports to Qatar stood at OMR51 in 2011. With a stable government and economy, Qatar offers a good environment for Omani companies to make their products and services available."
Organised by the Public Authority for Investment Promotion & Export Development (Paiped), in partnership with OCCI and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates, the Omani Products Trade Exhibition aims to foster enhanced trade relations and to open up new commercial opportunities for domestic manufacturers.
