MUSCAT -- In an era of stock market volatility and worldwide economic reforms, brokerage houses must strive hard to empower investors with informed investment decisions, a senior BankMuscat official told a recent 'investor seminar' organised by the bank.

"Quality holds the key. We need to ensure that investment decisions are based on quality information.

Indeed, information is the key to success, and the key to stock market stability," he said.

'BankMuscat investor seminar', a regular investor awareness programme organised by the bank's brokerage division is a boon for the investor community in Oman.

The seminar presented Oman Cables, Taageer Finance, Oman Ceramics and AES Barka to the investor community. Top officials of these entities shared their thoughts and insights on current and emerging market conditions with the investors. They also discussed issues affecting organisations and elaborated on their future business strategies.

MSM investors have been celebrating the long-awaited return of bull market since the first quarter of 2003 after about four years of sharp declines.

"Unless we equip ourselves we cannot sustain the present stability. Although every market should find its own blueprint for success, fundamentals that lead to growth remain same everywhere. Three fundamental elements that should work together to sustain growth and expand the market are good institutions, transparency and accountability and quality information. BankMuscat's initiative is laudable," a high net worth individual investor opined.

"We have commitments to empower the Omani investor, community investors with increased information and market knowledge. The BankMuscat investor seminar, is designed to help create a common platform, where potential investors, opinion formers and companies could meet to better understand each other, so as to provide the basis for informed investment decision making," BankMuscat official said.

"This is all the more important, at a time when the regional stock markets, and even the MSM, are experiencing volatility, at least at smaller degrees. Greater information alone can empower our investor and opinion-former community in Oman. It will help them take decisions that are right and in the best interest of all. Seminars such as this, therefore assume greater importance as they go a long way in building or even restoring investor confidence," he said.

Investors, analysts, portfolio managers and representatives from leading Omani pension funds attended the seminar.

Top officials from Oman Cables, Oman Ceramics and AES Barka also made presentations on their respective companies.

The Muscat Securities Market had declared the BankMuscat brokerage as the leading brokerage house in Oman, in terms of trading volume for the year 2005. It also bagged second position in the category of 'services offered by a brokerage house' in Oman for the year 2005.
