MUSCAT -- Oman International Container Terminal (OICT) regards the training of its personnel as a top priority, as they are responsible for the day to day operations of a major container handling facility.

The OICT training programmes are extensive and rigorous in their application to ensure the highest levels of terminal productivity and efficiency.

OICT, a member of the Hutchison Port Holdings Group (HPH), has been working closely with the Government of Oman to implement intensive training programmes, which cover a time-frame of up to six months.

The programmes are conducted by experienced trainers in the maritime field and are designed to incorporate classroom and hands-on simulation exercises at both Hong Kong International Terminals (HIT), the flagship operation of the HPH Group in Hong Kong and Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) in Pakistan, and during September it conducted live simulations in real time at the OICT terminal.

The programmes take into consideration the very different skill sets associated with the specific tasks of the key personnel undergoing training. OICT puts in the programmes particular emphasis on health and safety issues in the workplace.

OICT believes that the international experience garnered from these training programmes will prove invaluable to its employees as the terminal strives to become the premier container handling facility in the Gulf region.
