MUSCAT -- Mohammed bin Nasser al Khusaibi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Economy, will preside over the official inauguration today of the 6th Oil & Gas West Asia (OGWA) 2008 Exhibition and Conference. The formal inauguration ceremony, which starts at 9 am at the Golden Tulip Hotel will be attended by ministry officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the top management of participating companies, and other dignitaries. Guests will then proceed to the exhibition centre for the opening of the exhibition at 10:30 am.

"This year's OGWA fully reflects the continued growth of the oil & gas industry in Oman by featuring the biggest ever number of local and international exhibitors and by hosting the largest gathering of industry professionals from within the region and beyond," said C J Paul, General Manager of Omanexpo LLC. Paul added that the OGWA 2008 exhibition, which is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Oil & Gas, will feature over 150 companies from more than 20 countries worldwide, including Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, Norway, Oman, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, UAE, UK and USA. The event will be held until April 23, and the exhibition timings are from 10 am to 6 pm daily.

The list of exhibitors includes national oil & gas companies in the GCC, such as Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Oman LNG, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Qatar Petroleum, the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), and the Bahrain National Gas Company. The three-day exhibition will also feature international oil & gas firms including BG Oman, BP Oman, Dolphin Energy, Occidental of Oman, Petrofac, PTTEP Oman Company Ltd., Schlumberger, and Total.

Leading Omani companies will also have a strong presence with the participation of many organisations including Abraj Energy Services, the Al Sulaimi Group, Development Services, Gulf Services & Industrial Supplies Co, Hi-Tech Services & Supplies, International Business Development, MB Holding Company, Oman Gas Company, Oman National Engineering & Investment. SAOG, Oman Oil Industry Supplies & Services, Oman Oilfields Supply Center, Oman Refineries and Petrochemicals, Riyam Engineering & Services, Seven Seas Petroleum, Shaksy Group, Shanfari Group, Technical Supplies, and Vanguard Engineering & Oilfield Services.

Among the wide range of products, equipment and technologies that visitors on show are pipes and fittings, compressors, down-hole tools, drilling equipment, gauges and valves, pressure vessels, electrical equipment, paints and coatings, power systems and supplies, refinery equipment, pumps, heat exchangers, and wellhead equipment. Many exhibitors will also be highlighting their professional services, including drilling, engineering, corrosion control, oil & gas exploration, logging, maintenance as well as oilfield services.

In conjunction with the exhibition, a major event at OGWA 2008 is the SPE EOR Conference, which is managed and organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). The conference will bring together global experts in all forms of EOR techniques to present, share, and discuss their experiences in the area. The technical programme will cover the latest advances in thermal, gas, and chemical EOR methods; EOR selection criteria; surveillance techniques for locating remaining oil; and drivers and challenges in implementing EOR.

Several field pilots and case studies will also be part of the discussions. Today's official opening of the conference will feature an executive plenary session involving Ibrahim al Ansari, General Manager -- UAE of Dolphin Energy Ltd; John Malcolm, Managing Director of PDO; Stuart Fysh, Executive Vice President & MD -- Mediterranean Basin and Africa of the BG Group; and Abdulla A al Naim, Vice President -- Petroleum Engineering and Development of Saudi Aramco.

The SPE EOR Conference at OGWA is supported by PDO and Saudi Aramco as platinum sponsors as well as Occidental Petroleum and Schlumberger as silver sponsors. The conference co-sponsors are ADMA-OPCO, Calsep, Oman Gas Company (OGC), Partex Oil and Gas, Petrofac, Shell, Weatherford and Zakum Development Company (ZADCO). The OGWA 2008 exhibition is officially supported by PDO as well as BG Oman and ADNOC as platinum sponsors and BP Oman and the Oman International Exhibition Centre as gold sponsors.
