MUSCAT: Oman Arab Bank OAB) recently signed a contract with Bahwan Contracting Company (BCC) to construct the bank's new headquarters at Al Ghubra north.
The project is expected to be completed in the next 18 months, said company officials, while addressing the media.
With a construction cost of RO9.60 million, the building comprises of basement, ground and nine floors with a built-up area of 22,000 square metres.
The agreement was signed by Rashad Al Zubair, chairman, OAB and S K Virmani, MD, Bahwan Contracting Company, part of Bahwan Engineering Group. "We trust that Bahwan Contracting Company as well as Khatib & Alami and Partners will ensure that our future head office building reflects OAB's image and the Sultanat's culture. We hope to further work together on future projects," said Rashad Al Zubair, chairman, Oman Arab Bank.
The new building will cater to bank's current and future requirements and will consolidate all of its departments in one convenient location with ample car parking spaces.
"Our future head office building will not only be a work of art in terms of architecture, but also a means of convenience that will enable our customers to transact their business with ease and efficiency as the design approach is very customer centric," said Abdul Kader Askalan, CEO, Oman Arab Bank.
The engineering and design consultancy for the building will be done by Khatib and Alami and Partners (K&A), a Middle East based design consultants. K&A in Oman have been involved with many hospital designs and infrastructure development works in the past.
The specialised electromechanical services (MEP), elevator installations and stand by power generation work will be carried out by Bahwan Engineering Company (BEC).
Shaikh Ahmed bin Suhail Bahwan, MD, Suhail Bahwan Group said, "We hope to put our hands together and develop a masterpiece."
