MoH Studies Problems Of Striking Nurses

KUWAIT CITY, April 8

A large number of nurses working at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hosptial went on an indefinite strike on Monday, halting the work process in the outpatient clinics.

According to a source, "the strike occurred because officials continuously do not provide the nursing staff with proper civil ids and paid annual leaves."

Nurses cannot go to their home country if any emergency occurs for fear they will not be able to return, the source added, noting that the nurses will continue the strike until their demands are met.

Meanwhile, Director of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital Dr Hassan Al-Dosari told KUNA that around 120 male and female nurses, working in the outpatient clinics, went on a total strike.

"Most of the patient appointments were canceled as a result of the strike, which was carried out by a large number of members of the nursing staff of a company contracting with the Ministry of Health," he said.

Al-Dosari added around 600 nurses in various medical specialties work at the hospital and affiliated medical centers in the area of Hawali and they were provided by a company contracting with the Ministry of Health. He added that strike did not affect the emergency, operations and intensive care.
He further noted that company representatives are currently meeting with the strikers in their private residence in the Mahboula area to reach a solution to end the strike.
