A state-of-the-art, five-lane vehicle testing station for renewal of registration for heavy and light vehicles has been opened in Dubai's Ras Al Khor area. The centre is run by Dubai Police and Saeed Mohammed Al Ghandi & Sons, part of the Al Ghandi Automotive Group.

The station has end-to-end automation facilities and is the first one in its class to have an integrated management system where the vehicle owner will have the procedures completed in the shortest possible time.

Since the system is integrated with the Dubai Police's database, it will operate in a paperless environment and do away with written applications.

Owners whose vehicles will be received via state-of-art computers, will be able to wait in air-conditioned comfort and watch the testing on TV screens.

The software system will also inform the owners through SMS of the test results and payments of fines and test fees. The owners will also be able to check their fines and pay them through kiosks.

An integrated insurance portal allows owners to book insurance also on site at competitive prices. The new vehicle station will bring in greater efficiency and reduce the time owners have to wait.

The vehicle testing equipment has been supplied by Maha Maschinenbau of Germany. The entire software management system, in Arabic and English, has been designed, built and implemented by Al Ghandi Solutions.

The Vehicle Testing Station has been designed to be user-friendly. and affords greater convenience and time-saving to the vehicle owners.

Previously Dubai Police signed an agreement with Emarat to launch vehicle testing and registration renewal centres called Shamil at five locations.

Backed by a total investment of Dh15 million, the Shamil centres will conduct vehicle testing and registration renewal for light vehicles in 20 minutes. The first three Shamil centres will be followed by two more in early 2004. All the Shamil centres will be located within existing Emarat service stations.

Maj. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, has said the deal signifies Dubai Police's commitment to simplify procedures for the public. Dubai Police also runs Tasjeel vehicle test and registration sites operated by EPPCO. This service was launched a few years ago and has proved to be very popular.
