MUSCAT -- Omani Qatari Telecommunications Company SAOG (Nawras) posted a 3 per cent rise in revenues for Q1 2013, although net profit declined 21.4 per cent, the operator said in unaudited financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2013.

Earnings grew to RO 48.2 million at the end of the first quarter of this year, compared with RO 46.8 million in Q1 2012. The growth is driven by increases in both fixed and mobile data revenue as well as international voice revenue offset by a decrease in SMS and national voice revenue, Nawras said.

EBITDA for Q1 2013 was RO 23.2 million compared with RO 24.2 million in Q1 2012. Net profit for the quarter was RO 7.7 million compared to RO 9.8 million in Q1 2012. Net profit was affected by higher depreciation due to network modernization, the operator stated.

Total number of customers grew by 12.3 per cent in Q1 2013 from 1,988,476 to 2,234,453. The fixed service customer base increased by 57 per cent to 51,532 customers in Q1 2013 compared to 32,857 for the same period of 2012.
