The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has awarded a commercial bid project worth RO55mn to expand Port of Salalah's general cargo handling capacity.
In a disclosure to Muscat Securities Market (MSM), Salalah Port Services Company said that the expansion project will help turn Salalah port into a
liquid-bulk hub and meet the demand for increased economic activity in Dhofar region and international investment projects in Salalah.
The project will increase the port's cargo handling capacity to 20mn tonnes per annum (mtpa) of dry bulk commodities and over 6mn tonnes of liquid products from the present capacity for 6.5mtpa.
Peter Ford, CEO of Port of Salalah, said, This expansion will play a significant role in serving the development of businesses in Salalah and surrounding regions."
