Salalah - The RO385mn Mirbat Power Production and Water Desalination project was inaugurated on Sunday under the auspices of H E Sayyid Mohamed bin Sultan al Busaidi, Minister of State and governor of Dhofar.

Mohammed bin Abdullah al Mahrouqi, chairman of Public Authority for Electricity and Water delivered a speech at the ceremony in which he said the project comes within the framework of Oman's strategy of increasing domestic and foreign investment in power production and water desalination and the creation of an economic base with the participation of the private sector.

He noted that agreements signed by the government in 2009 with Sembcorp Salalah Power and Water Co, owned by Sembcorp and Oman Investment Corp, resulted in the construction of the Mirbat project on a build, own and operate basis.
