The first ship carrying a consignment of Iran's agricultural products will depart to Kuwait on Oct. 16, said director general of Trade Promotion Organization's Department for Arabic and African Countries.
Hossein Hosseini said the agreement was recently signed by the two countries, IRNA reported on Friday.
The official said the objective has been achieved thanks to the efforts by the National Union of Agricultural Products and Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization.
About 754,000 tons of agricultural products, worth $884 million, were exported during the first four months of current Iranian year (March 20-June 21).
The figure shows some 1.6 percent and 10 percent growth in terms of value and weight respectively compared to the figure for the corresponding period of the year before.
About $182 million worth of pistachios, $111 million worth of fruits, $107 million worth of Saffron and $242 million worth of other agricultural products were exported during the period.
In August, the managing director of Jihad Esteqlal Institute affiliated to Agricultural Jihad Organization said some 72 trillion rials ($7.2 billion) of the financial resources of National Development Fund (NDF) have been allocated to agricultural development plans.
Reza Shafeinia said the fund is expected to be made available to the producers of agricultural commodities.
He added that agricultural development plan which was drawn up late last year, has been implemented since the beginning of current Iranian year.
Shafeinia also said that 18.5 million hectares of farming lands are cultivable, suggesting that launching of Agricultural Development Fund will help generate jobs and increase the productivity of agricultural sector.
Saying that agricultural production chain of the country is not integrated, he added this has led to an increase in the price of products. Shafeinia announced that domestic agricultural production increased significantly in the past years, pointing out that some 25 million tons agro crops were produced in the country in the beginning years after the victory of Islamic Revolution while the figure increased to 117 million tons at present.
