KUWAIT CITY, April 4
The Ministry of Interior is currently studying the possibility of allowing expatriates to obtain Article 24 visas (self-sponsorship) provided they fulfill certain conditions, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.
Sources said the ministry believes this step will lessen, if not eliminate, crimes and encourage the people to respect the law. Sources disclosed the expatriates who will be allowed to sponsor themselves include those residing in the country for 15 years minimum, have no criminal record, with high academic certificates, and salary of not less than KD 500 a month to ensure a comfortable life with their families.
Sources added the visa will be cancelled in case the holder commits a crime.
Sources clarified that expatriates who hold Article 24 visa can bring their families or relatives to the country under their own sponsorship. Sources said this is one of the steps being eyed to push for the cancellation of the sponsorship system which has been criticized by many international organizations.
