KUWAIT: Microsoft Gulf today announced that Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has implemented the Windows 7 Enterprise Operating System, the latest version of Microsoft's flagship Operating System, across its entire computing infrastructure In the process, the global energy producer has received significant benefits through improved flexibility and enhanced security with this latest operating system upgrade, thereby leading to enhanced operational efficiency and increased personal productivity for employees throughout the organization.
Ali Al-Nakib, Head of IT services at Kuwait Oil Company added "We consider the implementation of new technology as critical to achieve the improvements desired within our operations. We have always been early adopters of new and relevant technologies that is core to our business. We continually sponsor new research and development projects that can positively impact the business. Our decade long relationship with Microsoft has proven this and our latest adoption shows our dedication to achieving our 2020 vision.
In taking the decision to move ahead with Windows 7, KOC wanted to take advantage of new enhancements in Windows 7 Enterprise such as improved support for virtualization, 64-bit processing, built-in security features, and seamless application and device compatibility.
Ehab Mostafa, Country Manager, Microsoft Kuwait, added, "The successful implementation of Windows 7 in Kuwait Oil Company is a powerful endorsement of our flagship operating system. This will be a tremendous asset to KOC to gain a competitive advantage in today's new world of work in addition to helping employees be more productive anywhere. It also provides support for a mobile workforce with better access to shared data and collaboration tools. The IT staff at KOC are already experiencing the benefits of better tools and technologies for enhanced corporate IT security and data protection, and more efficient deployment and management through Windows 7.
In order to have seamless application compatibility, KOC deployed Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization software to avoid potential conflicts between Windows 7 Enterprise and the company's pool of applications that operate on Windows XP. This gave Kuwait Oil Company a centralized way to provide compatibility for all their applications that ran on Windows XP, which saved the company a tremendous amount of planning work and time throughout the deployment.
To accelerate the deployment process, the IT team at KOC took advantage of the Windows deployment tools available from Microsoft for Windows 7 Enterprise-a set of tools and documentation that support the deployment of the Windows 7 Enterprise operating system. To track all of these activities, including the deployment of images to computers across the company's entire operations, the company also relied on Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 to visually monitor the progress of each step in the deployment process.
