Amman - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday called for maximum use of the forthcoming tourist season and providing Jordan's guests with all facilities and services they need.
During a meeting with all bodies concerned with organizing the current tourist season, the King stressed the importance of the tourism sector in the overall developments drive and called for boosting the Kingdom's image as a distinguished tourist attraction.
The King told the meeting, which highlighted the tourism plan for this year, that there is a need for closer cooperation between public and private institutions to make the national tourism strategy a success and thus further enhancing the national economy.
He called on the private and public sectors to coordinate their efforts to arrive at tourist-attracting programs and set a guide highlighting events and festivals that will be held across the Kingdom.
The tourism sector is one of the main driving forces of the national economy, accounting for about 13 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). Total tourism income in 2011 reached JD2.026 billion. The number of overnight visitors amounted 3.975 million visitors for the same year.
