Erbil, Dec.14 (AKnews) - Two other lawmakers withdrew from the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition yesterday, leaving the Kurdish alliance in the Iraqi Council of Representatives with only 47 seats.

On his Facebook account Osama Jamil a deputy in the Kurdistan Islamic Union published a letter to the KBC leadership whereby he and his KIU fellow Bakir Hama-Sadiq stated their withdrawal from the Kurdish caucus.

The KBC originally consisted of the five Kurdish parties which ran independently for election in 2010, namely: Kurdistan Democratic Party, Patriotic Union of Kurdistan , KIU, Kurdistan Islamic Group and the Gorran [Change] Movement. The latter three form an opposition against KDP and PUK's government in the Kurdish semi-autonomous region in northern Iraq.

Gorran split from the KBC last year, leaving the coalition with 49 seats in the Iraqi parliament. Lately deputies from the KIU and KIG speculated they may also withdraw from the KBC.

In their letter, the KIU stated their withdrawal came after the recent violations against KIU offices in Kurdistan, Duhok Governorate.

On Dec. 2 mobs attacked massage parlors, liquor shops and hotels in Zakho after Friday prayer. The same evening several offices of KIU was set alight as they blamed for provoking the crowd.

"The events in Badinan area [Duhok Governorate] and the violations and aggressions against our headquarters made it clear to us our presence in the KBC, either as two members or as an entity, does not have a real significance or influence," KIU and KIG deputies wrote.

KBC is left now with only two KIU members.

In their letter, KIU members added their party has faced "clear violations more than once".

In December 2005, only a week after elections, four KIU members including a senior official were killed as mobs attacked Islamic party's headquarters in Duhok and Erbil.

Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani who has been in his post for the past 20 years condemned the attacks immediately, just as he did with the recent events in Zakho.

The withdrawing KBC members say they will continue outside the Kurdish alliance "with a responsible Kurdistani spirit".
