A credit worth 8.5 trillion rials was allocated to the mining and agricultural sectors of West Azarbaijan province, announced First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi.
Speaking on the sidelines of the fourth round of presidential visit to this northwestern province on Sunday, Rahimi said this shows the attention of the government and President Mahmoud Ahmadijnejad to the potentials of West Azarbaijan, IRNA reported. He added that of this budget, 4.5 trillion rials have been earmarked for agricultural projects.
"About 600 billion rials have been allocated to watershed projects in Orumieh Lake and for compensating losses caused by drought, frost and pests," he said.
Rahimi put the credit for West Azarbaijan's mines at 3 trillion rials.
He noted that the government has prepared the comprehensive plan of provincial mines and mining industries, implemented Orumieh Lake revival project and issued a permit for extracting mineral salts in this project, launched an agricultural databank and a laboratory, and allocated 400 billion rials for completing semi-finished project.
On the ratifications approved during previous presidential visits to West Azarbaijan province, the vice president explained that from a total of 676 ratifications, 261 have been implemented, 300 are underway and 115 have not been implemented.
Rahimi outlined some of the government measures taken in the past eight years as follows:
• Allocation of 35.6 trillion rials worth of development credit to the province,
• Extending loans worth 18.8 trillion rials to entrepreneurship projects,
• Generating 173,287 sustainable employments,
• Constructing 21,200 Mehr housing units,
• Generating 64,000 temporary jobs,
• Launching 830 new hospital beds,
• Establishing 29 road rescue stations, and
• Registering a 205-percent growth in the number of university students.
"Three new power plants have also been established across the province and provincial electricity output has reached 1,360 MW from 410 MW," he said.
Rahimi said the government has made good achievements in the fields of industries and mines, agriculture and cooperatives in the past eight years.
"These achievements include employment of 61,000 in the industrial sector, double growth in the number of industrial units, inauguration of 190 mining units with the employment of 5,000 workers, fourfold growth in cement production, 115-percent growth in the value of non-oil exports, growth in agricultural production and a 46-percent rise in the number of cooperatives across the province," he said.
Rahimi pointed out that the government has also taken steps for improving the provincial infrastructure, removing 44 accident-prone spots, registering a 116-percent rise in rural roads and planning to establish 184 km of railroads.
"The construction of 34 dams has been planned across West Azarbaijan province, of which 14 have been completed, 11 are under construction and nine are undergoing feasibility studies," he said.
