"Over 2.1 million rural houses have been reinforced since 2005," he said.

"Some 5.8 million housing units have been built in various cities since 2005."

Nikzad said huge investments have been made in the transportation sector.

"Currently, 41,500 kilometers of roads and highways are under construction," he added.

In January, Behrouz Alishiri, the head of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran, said $1.5 billion worth of foreign investments have been attracted in the housing sector.

He noted that $1.2 billion are currently invested in projects.

"Sanctions imposed on Iran have proven to be futile and foreign investments in Iran have risen considerably," he said.

Alishiri said that for completing housing and construction projects, the capacities and experiences of international firms can be used.

"Besides equipment and new resources, introduction of housing technology, increase in the rate of constructions and reducing costs and final price may lead to the satisfaction of housing applicants in Iran," he said.

Alishiri said contracting companies of Iran have remarkable capacities in the housing sector.

"We should try to use financial modeling of their plans in the field of housing," he said.

"In the current situation, foreign firms and investors are eager to cooperate in Iran and we can use their capacities to expedite projects in the housing sector."
