Development crucial for young population
Davos Rashad Janahi, managing director of Abu Dhabi Investment House, said the two key elements for the Mediterranean region are investing in the youth and education as well as a strong legislative framework to facilitate investment.
Speaking at the workshop on the Mediterranean as part of the sessions of the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Janahi highlighted that elements like improving literacy rates and quality of education especially in the countries southern to the Mediterranean is crucial for the growing young population, which currently represents the major demographic group in the region.
The establishment of schools, universities and programmes that foster talents of the youth and improve education is an issue that should be addressed as a whole, he said.
Ensuring legislative consistency and stability across the region should assist in bolstering foreign direct investment (FDI), especially in infrastructure projects. The alignment of regional legislative frameworks can further help and facilitate projects and capital flow, Janahi said.
FDI, privatisation and increased dialogue between the private and public sectors are all important elements, Janahi said, to help improve the economies of this region, especially in North Africa.
