JEDDAH - Production of reinforcing steel at Saudi Iron and Steel Company in 2008 amounted to 2.453 million tons against 2.399 million tons in 2008, ArabSteel said on Thursday.
Its production of wire rods during 2008 amounted to 600.984 tons against 640.748 tons in 2007.
The company increased its production of flat products in 2008. Its production amounted to1.310 million tons in 2008 against 1.233 million tons in 2007. The company's total production of long and flat products amounted to 4.365 million tons in 2008 against 4.273 million tons in 2007 with a growth rate of 2.1 percent.
The company directed most of its sales of long and flat products to the local market. The volume of its sales of long products to the domestic market amounted to 2.775 million tons in 2008 against 3.048 million tons in 2007 with a growth rate of and of flat products to 1.090 million tons in 2008 against 0.81 million tons in 2007, a growth rate of 36 percent compared to 2007. The company's exports of flat products increased in 2008. The volume of the exported quantities amounted to 328 000 tons against 273 000 tons in 2007, i.e., a growth rate of 20 percent.
It exported a portion of its cold rolled and galvanized products. The total production of the company of these products in 2008 amounted to 327 000 tons.
