DUBAI: Dubais continuing efforts to develop infrastructure received a significant boost with two major projects receiving the green light for construction, a WAM report said.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, approved the Dh2.5 billion Madinat Jumeirah expansion project and the Creek Panorama project the first pedestrian bridge across the Dubai Creek from Bur Dubai to Shindagha.

Launching the fourth phase of the Madinat Jumeirah expansion, Shaikh Mohammad said the development of the tourism infrastructure in Dubai must match the UAEs growing position as an international tourist hub, stressing that the process of development never stops and has no limits.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, were present.

The Jumeirah expansion, which includes a luxury five-star hotel, a villa complex, restaurants and a commercial centre, will be completed by the end of 2015.

During a visit to Dubais Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Shaikh Mohammad inspected the progress of a number or projects and initiatives, including the residential complex of Dubai Police, Al Sufouh Tram and the Business Bay Canal extension.

Briefing Shaikh Mohammad, Mattar Al Tayer, the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, said the 120-metre Creek Panorama, which will span the creek at a height of 17 metres, will provide a pedestrian-friendly venue in the busy business district with commercial opportunities.

The Al Sufouh Tram line extends 14km along Al Sufouh Road with 19 stations. Each train can carry about 300 passengers and on completion a fleet of 25 trains will carry about 5,000 passengers per hour per direction.

Shaikh Mohammad also visited a quad-bike show organised by RTA under the theme: Safe Driving, More Fun. The show educates public and private school students on the optimal and safe use of bikes, WAM said.
