SOHAR -- Muhana bin Saif al Lamki, Governor of North Al Batinah, Walis and other government officials visited Sohar Aluminium and interacted with employees recently at an invitation from Said al Masoudi, Acting CEO of Sohar Aluminium. The employees appreciated this initiative and praised the company's working atmosphere and infrastructure. The dignitaries familiarised themselves with the entire process of manufacturing aluminium during their visit to Carbon Plant, Reduction Pot and Cast House. This also provided the dignitaries with an insight into the excellent level of safety measures provided at the work place.

Al Masoudi said that "Safety of our workforce is the essence of Sohar Aluminium's operations. We believe that our employees are our greatest asset and thus we all strive to ensure the safety and well-being of each and every person working at Sohar Aluminium." The officials also visited Sohar Aluminium Training Academy which imparts world class training to aspiring workforce. The Academy offers continuous training and development programmes at different levels right from short courses to post graduate certification. The Training Academy is currently conducting training programmes to accelerate SA's Omanisation process in the plant by developing operators to technician levels.

Another training centre which the company has undertaken jointly with Public Authority for Craft Industries where women from local community are imparted skills in making handicrafts from aluminium. The women are also taught entrepreneurial skills at the training centre. The officials were also impressed with Sohar Aluminium's high Omanisation level of 73 per cent. Sohar Aluminium has committed to offer employment opportunities to locals from North Al Batinah. The company remains committed to developing the neighbouring areas by procuring local services and goods as much as possible. SA has also committed 60 per cent of its total production towards its downstream industries which will help generate further jobs and facilitate development of the entire region. Sohar Aluminium is committed to becoming a benchmark smelter worldwide while contributing significantly to the progress of Oman.
