Damascus - Gas is one of the most important natural resources in Syria due to its reserves available in comparison with oil. Gas has occupied an important place ever since 1995, and its production increased from 2 million cubic meters to 22 million cubic meters currently.

Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is currently working on constructing three gas factories. One of these factories is Jihar Gas factory in Palmyra financed by Hayyan Petroleum Company in cooperation with the Croatian Ena company.

The General Petroleum Establishment produces from 22 to 23 million cubic meters a day of natural gas.
