Court gives reckless driver 40 lashes and QR10,000 fine
DOHA: In a case of drink-driving, a Qatari court has sentenced an Indian to 40 lashes and fined him QR10,000 after he was found guilty of killing two persons in a reckless way.
The tragic incident took place on Al Khor Road recently. The court has ordered that the driving license of the convict be withdrawn for three months and he has also been asked to organise blood money (diya)--QR200,000 in the case of each of the dead--for their families.
The convict confessed during interrogation that he was drunk while driving but denied that he was responsible for the mishap.
He said while he entered the main road from a lane he looked at both sides but hit a car parked on the right side of the road. The man sitting behind the steering and his domestic helper, a Sri Lankan, were killed on the spot.
