Flydubai's inaugural flight reached Salalah in Dhofar governorate from Dubai on Tuesday at 7pm.
The UAE-based low-cost airline will now operate three weekly flights to Salalah to attract tourists, residents and businessmen.
Hamad Obaidalla, the chief commercial officer of flydubai and other delegates travelled in the flight, which inaugurated the Dubai-Salalah route.
The maiden visit was celebrated with a water canon salute
Obaidalla said, "Dubai-Salalah route is being opened with the aim of contributing towards the economic development and tourism traffic in Salalah for the oncoming Khareef season, and for the future.
"Salalah is a relaxing place not only for the people of the UAE but also for tourists who come from all over the world. It will also set a connection between Salalah and the rest of the world," he said.
He added that as passengers top the list of priority, every attempt has been made to look after their needs.
For example the entertainment section, which has been stocked with up to 900 movies, he said.
The flight will take almost 90 minutes to fly from Dubai to Salalah and the promotional fare is RO30 for one way and RO55 for return.
Salalah is the 60th destination of flydubai and the airlines has more plans lined up for the near future.
"This year we will add five more aircraft taking the total to 34," said Obaidalla.
