The Egyptian government is considering the establishment of an agricultural industries complex, covering a total land area of 303 acres in the governorate of Dakahlia, for an estimated USD 296 million, an official from the state investment agency told Zawya.

Alaa Omar, governorate investments official at Egypt's General Authority for Investment (GAFI), said the complex will be devoted to growing aromatic and medicinal plants and manufacturing of silage. "Around 200 acres will be allocated for the cultivation of aromatic plants, 100 acres for projects relying on cultivated aromatic and medicinal plants and another three acres for a silage waste recovery process facility," he said.

The silage facility will use agricultural waste from neighboring fields comprising 55,000 acres of lands possessed by land reclamation societies, Omar added. He also mentioned that the agricultural industries complex will increase the scope of cultivable land in Dakahlia, while at the same time capitalizing on harvested crops in various industries. More importantly, it will generate job opportunities for residents within the area.

"The project will be implemented in the villages of Qalabshu and Zayan - Belkas city, governorate of Dakahlia. Financing of the project will be carried out through a mutual interest scheme in accordance with the Egyptian tenders and auctions law," said Omar.
