The UAE's BlackBerry fanatics will get the chance to be the first in the world to buy the brand's latest Q5 smartphone when it goes on public sale in Dubai today.

The firm has said the new device, which features the QWERTY keyboard beloved of owners of old-school BlackBerrys will be sold at the Dubai Mall to mark the opening of the firm's new BlackBerry-branded retail store.

It said the Q5 will retail at Dhs1,499 - a lower price than most of its other devices.

In a statement, the firm said "a limited number of the new smartphones will be exclusively available for early sale for the opening day of the store" and advised that those keen to get their hands on the Q5 should "line up" from 5pm today at the Dubai Mall store. There will also be the chance to pre-order the smartphone at the store, before it is widely available in the UAE next month.

The Q5 is one of three new models released by BlackBerry this year that analysts say are crucial to its hopes of reviving its global market share after a difficult few years.
