Dubai: Commuters welcomed the opening of the Al Jaddaf and Creek stations of the Dubai Metro’s Green Line on Saturday, saying travelling to and from the areas has become more convenient and less time-consuming.

The two stations, located on both sides of Al Khail Road, were the last of 20 stations on the Green Line to open to the public.

“I used to take the bus from the Oud Metha station to reach office here in Al Jaddaf. The whole trip would usually take an hour, including a 10-minute walk from the bus stop to my office. Now, with the new Metro service here in Al Jaddaf, I can take the train straight to work cutting my travel time to half an hour,” May Lutuaco, a receptionist, told Gulf News.

Anthony Varghese, who lives in Sharjah with his family, said the new service was “very good move” for him and his wife.

“My wife works in Al Jaddaf. So we can now park at the Rashidiya Metro station and she can then take the train there, making the trip more convenient. Overall, the Metro service here is very useful,” the Indian resident said.

Storekeeper Ebrahim Qader said commuting on his days off has become easier. “I live in a labour accommodation next to the Creek station. Taking the train from here is good and economical.”

Bus Route C04 from the Gold Souq bus station will service both Al Jaddaf and Creek stations to link commuters with nearby communities in Al Jaddaf.

Marine services are in the works to connect the Creek station to Dubai Festival City.

According to figures from the Roads and Transport Authority, Al Jaddaf station’s daily ridership is expected to be 2,100 per day while about 1,400 commuters are expected to use the Creek station daily.
