DAMASCUS, (SANA) - The Commercial Bank of Syria (CBS) on Wednesday stressed that the US measures against it recently are oppressive and based on political reasons.

CBS Director-General Duraid Dergham said in a statement to SANA that the bank already rejected US sanctions in 2005 under the pretext of money-laundering which aimed at distorting its fame, adding that the US refused to submit clear-cut evidence to support its accusations.

Dergham pointed out that during his visit to Washington years ago, he stressed that the US sanctions lack a true reason, pointing out that the bank still ranks first among 20 Syrian banks despite sanctions.
