BAGHDAD, Nov 03, 2009 (AFP) - The Iraqi government has chosen British firm ArmorGroup to provide security at Baghdad international airport in a deal worth 22.5 million dollars, the cabinet announced on Tuesday.

ArmorGroup will take over from South Africa's Sabre which had the contract for the past year but which has now been given one month's notice.

In August, ArmorGroup made headlines when one its employees, Danny Fitzsimons, 29, was arrested for shooting dead two of his colleagues inside the heavily fortified Green Zone compound in central Baghdad which houses many government buildings and the US embassy.

Fitzsimons, from Manchester in northwest England, has said he acted in self-defence.
