The Health Ministry was asked to work out a comprehensive scheme on region's need for new hospitals.
The Cabinet also instructed the Works Ministry to coordinate with the Health Ministry in conducting a study on the possibility of constructing a new maternity hospital in Muharraq.
The Health Ministry was also asked to explore the possibility of setting up a hospital in A'ali, instead of the Western Region's Maternity Hospital.
The council members felt this would benefit residents of Hamad Town as well as the Central and Western Regions.
The ministerial Council tasked the Health Ministry to carry out maintenance work on Muharraq Maternity Hospital as well as the maternity units in the Western Region and Sitra.
It also instructed the ministry to study the need for special health facilities to treat patients with chronic diseases who need to stay in hospital for longer terms.
The Premier gave his directives to the Industry and Commerce Ministry, Health Ministry and the Justice and Islamic Affairs Ministry to make the necessary preparations for Ramadhan. He instructed the Industry and Commerce Ministry to tighten control on prices by organising massive inspection campaigns.
He also urged the Health Ministry to inspect all restaurants and food outlets during this season and monitor the quality of food served.
"The ministry should act tough when it comes to protectting the welfare of citizens," Prince Khalifa said.
The Cabinet reviewed the financial performance of ministries and government bodies and the efforts taken to cut down public debt. The Premier directed the ministries to preserve the Kingdom's financial standing and boost Bahrain's competitiveness amidst regional and international challenges so as to meet the goals of the Economic Vision 2030.
The council congratulated Works Minister Fahmi bin Ali Al Jowder on receiving the Human Resources Development Award, instituted by the Asian Council for Human Resources Development.
The session underlined the need for the construction sector to remain open according to the market's needs. All specialised bodies were urged to continue their efforts towards enforcing regulations to develop this sector.
The efforts of the Industry and Commerce Ministry were hailed in this regard.
The Cabinet asserted the need to promote the culture of excellence, hailing the efforts of the Bahrain Centre of Excellence in this regard.
To ensure citizens' safety, the Prime Minister directed the authorities to step up traffic control mainly in residential areas to prevent offences and protect citizens.
As per a new decision by the Cabinet, the ministerial council will convene once in a fortnight in the months of July and August, instead of on a weekly basis.
The Cabinet approved and referred to the legislative power a draft law on access to an agreement on rights of the handicapped. The agreement aims to ensure that handicapped people are treated equally when it comes to education and jobs. Stress was also laid on increasing social awareness of their potentials.
The council also approved and referred to the legislative power a draft law on access to the International Development Association. It also approved a draft law to ratify two agreements on upgrading the 220 and 66-kilovolt electricity networks between Bahrain and Abu Dhabi Development Fund.
