Doha: The Public Works Authority -- Ashghal -- announced yesterday the launch of four major road and sewerage projects at a total cost of QR1.48bn.
Nasser Al Mawalwi, director of Ashghal signed the contracts with four companies for executing the projects. The five year contracts involve the construction of three processing stations with different capacities at Al Khor, Um El Barka and Karanaa for QR249.9m.
While the second QR555.4m contract signed with Bin Omran for Trade and Contracting deals with establishing service roads leading to Barwa City and constructing the necessary infrastructure for the Authority including 22km dual and triple carriage roads project linking
Al Montazah Street with F Ring Road from the north and Karwa from the west with 11 intersections and six roundabouts with traffic lights.
The third 660-day contract includes extension of the sewerage networks west of Doha , the 4th extension which started on the first day of January for QR269m..
The works include increasing the capacity of the processing station at Seilia, West of Doha, from 135,000m to 175,000m a day . The project is expected to finish on the first day of October, 2012.
The fourth and final QR 360.2m contract signed with Hamad bin Khalid and QBS includes developing main roads in the area 46 known as Al Thamama.
The work began last December and will last for 900 days. It includes establishing and qualifying service networks in the area in addition to road works, pavements, lighting, other modern infrastructure and fixing a light signal at the exit leading to the Olympic Stadium on the the E Ring Road.
Repling to questions, the director also said many deals were signed with several international companies for executing future projects planned by the Authority. He also added the roads to
Al Wakra from the Industrial Area will be redesigned.
On her part, Sheika Al Jefferi, the member of the Central Municipality Council, has praised the mechanism of coordination between the Council and the Authority.
