DOHA: The Building Affairs of Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced that it has completed the administrative headquarter building for the Department of Laboratories and Standardisation Affairs (DLSA), Ministry of Environment. The contract value of the project is over QR31.89m.
The building that houses the Headquarter of Gulf Building Code is situated at Mesaimeer along the main road between Industrial area and Doha city in the middle of a number of departments of the Ministry of Environment.
The architectural feature of the three-story mansion built over 3300 sqm is a blend of modernity and Qatari heritage. The three major blocks of headquarter is interconnected with a bridge in the first floor giving view of the main lobby and external facilities.
The extraordinary design of the building features the environmental dimension with green areas in the areas surrounding and on the roof top, which is a hanging garden divided into two parts. The team-based project work on the building is away from the traditional form of government administration buildings in terms of design and use, said Ashghal.
The first floor comprises of the main entrance and administrative offices with special entrance for women, in addition to a hall equipped with latest audio and video tools on an area of 547 m2 to display the proceedings of the Gulf Building Code to visitors. The second floor that comprises an area of 1362 m2 consists of various offices of the department of laboratory affairs and standardization, as well as a reception hall for VIPs.
The project also included re-design and implementation of all external works to the site, including paving, greenery and the outer wall with art work, illuminations and a fountain in which an animated logo of the specifications of the state, giving the site a distinctive feature.
The Building Affairs of PWA prepare studies, designs and technical specifications for public building projects, in addition to overseeing implementation of such projects.
