Doha: The Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani, said $10bn has been allocated by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to implement infrastructure projects during the next five years.

Qatar looks to lay an integrated plan to develop infrastructures well beyond the 2022 football World Cup.

"The allocation of $10bn was made even before Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup," the Minister said on the sidelines of the opening of the Sixth International Real Estate and Investment Exhibition in Doha.

No specific fund was allocated to spend on mega projects targeting the World Cup and no tender was provided in this regard, the minister said responding to a question asked about Qatar allocating $100bn to $120bn for 2022 mega projects.

"The cost of the World Cup projects has not been included in the general budget while the designs concerning the playgrounds and sport facilities are under construction now," the minister said.

"Local and private sector firms in the GCC should participate in running the World Cup mega projects. Qatar is keen to provide primary materials and housing and commercial units required for World Cup mega projects to avoid inflation that could take place during the organisation of the world event," he said. The General Urban Plan and the concerning design details will be accomplished in 2011 first half, he concluded.
