ABU DHABI, May 19th, 2013 (WAM) -- The Interior Ministry in Sharjah has seized 170 violators contrary to the law of entry and residence of foreigners in Sharjah, including 100 illegal street vendors, 53 violators of the law of entry and residence of foreigners, and 17 charged with working illegally. All were transferred to the relevant authorities to take legal action against them.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah inspection campaign was carried out in different parts of the emirate in collaboration with the Sharjah Police General Directorate, and Bureau of Labour and Economic Department, Sharjah Municipality.

Brigadier Dr. Abdullah Ali Saeed Bin Sahoo, Head of Residence and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah said that this campaign comes as part of the plan that was set up to curb the phenomenon of illegal residence. Brigadier Dr. Abdullah stressed the need for continuity of inspection campaigns to combat and fight against any practices contrary to the law and regulations in the state.

Bin Sahoo praised the cooperation, coordination and support for the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah with its strategic partners, led by the Sharjah Police General Directorate and the concerned departments and institutions in the emirate.

He called on citizens and residents to take the initiative to report offenders who pose a threat in terms of health and social and economic development through the telephone service "Sahem " and not to cover up the offenders as they pose a threat to the security and safety of the community.

He also urged the need not to deal with street vendors and buy luxury items and food from them as the quality and suitability of these materials may be suspect and unlicensed food vendors may even cause the spread of infectious diseases. He pointed out that purchasing from these vendors has a significant economic impact on national institutions. He called on companies and institutions to abide by the law in order to avoid exposure to the penalties prescribed by law.
