Around 10 companies have submitted expressions of interest so far for district cooling facilities for the Abu Dhabi International Airport project, according to an industry source.
He added the Al Habtoor Leighton-Murray & Roberts joint venture has issued a district cooling tender for the Zayed University project.
"The list of companies that has submitted expressions of interest for the airport district cooling project includes Al Kharafi, ADC, Abraaj Cooling, Citycool, Mapcu and Samsung," said the source, who did not wish to be named. "The expression of interest will go until mid-June and they are expecting the release of the tender in July or August."
Last week, in its second tender in May, the Supervision Committee for the Expansion of the Abu Dhabi International Airport (Scadia) invited expressions of interest from experienced design and build construction companies to prequalify for the design, build, operation and maintenance services for one or more district cooling (DC) plants and distribution systems at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, estimated at 60,000 TR each. The last date to respond is June 17, according to the company.
The project is divided into two packages, namely design-build for construction and operation and maintenance (O&M) for a period of three years. The scope of work will also cover the complete handover of district cooling plants and systems at the expiry of the O&M period. Companies must demonstrate over five years of similar experience in DC projects and experience in the GCC is preferred, added Scadia. Those contractors satisfying the above criteria will be contacted to collect the pre-qualification documents.
Meanwhile, a district cooling tender has been issued by the Al Habtoor-Murray and Roberts (AHMR) joint venture for the Dh3 billion new Zayed University campus in Abu Dhabi for Mubadala Development Company, according to the same source.
"The tender is for 20,000 tonnes of district cooling for Zayed University and has just been released," he told Emirates Business.
The project involves the design and construction of a new university campus on a plot of around 75 hectares and a built-up area of 200,000 square metres to provide educational facilities to 6,000 students as well as faculty and support staff, according to AHMR.
Work on the project is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2011. The new campus will be located in New Khalifa City, near to Abu Dhabi International Airport, and will be part of the Capital District, one of the major initiatives of the Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 Urban Structure Framework Plan.
The Capital District concentrates the government, academic and knowledge-based sectors, accommodating departmental offices and embassies, as well as national health and educational institutions.
