RIYADH (Zawya Dow Jones)--Saudi Arabia's general civil-aviation authority disclosed Saturday that it was opening competition for a license for a new national air carrier to operate domestic and international flights.
Competition for the new carrier license would begin Sunday, according to a statement carried by the state Saudi Press Agency. It gave no further details.
Saudi Arabian Airlines and the private National Air Service currently operate domestic routes in Saudi Arabia.
Separately, Saudi Arabia disclosed last month that it planned to open domestic routes to foreign carriers.
