Dubai Seven years of work by an international team of internet experts will culminate today in Abu Dhabi when one of the first non-English top-level domain names in the Arab world is officially launched by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
Mohammad Nasser Al Ganim, Director General of TRA will be joined by Rod Beckstrom, CEO and President of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to roll out the new (.emarat).
In an exclusive interview from Cairo yesterday, Beckstrom said the Washington-based ICANN organisation is excited about the UAE Arabic domain roll out.
“The message is that we’re pleased to see the UAE move ahead as a leader in the internet,” Beckstrom told Gulf News.
