BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--State-run Kuwait National Petroleum Co., or KNPC, is preparing to launch tenders for maintenance of its Mina Abdullah refinery, without fully shutting it down, thus saving millions of dollars, Kuwait-based Al Rai daily reports Wednesday citing an executive.
The project, named the General Refinery Turn Around, or GRTA, avoidance project, is expected to be completed in 2014, Mohammed Al Mutairi, KNPC's deputy managing director for Mina Abdullah refinery, told the paper.
The Mina Abdullah refinery is slated to become Kuwait's largest refining complex once KNPC's environmentally friendly fuel project, expected will boost the refinery's production capacity to 454,000 barrels a day from the current 264,000 barrels a day, is approved and implemented, the daily reports.
