By Fawaz Karami (with charts) KUWAIT, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Inflation on an annual basis in Kuwait rose by 2.

8pct in August compared with the same month in 2011, official data said here on Monday.

On a monthly basis, the inflation rate also rose by 0.5pct in August since July, added the Central Statistical Office (CSO).

Food prices, in particular, jumped by 5.7pct after witnessing a rise in six of its sub-groups and a decline in two.

It explained that meats, poultry and fish increased by 0.1 pct, while tea and coffee rose by 0.6 pct. Fruits and vegetables increased by one pct while other food commodities decreased by 0.1 pct and prices of sugar and its products decreased by 0.2 pct.

Only two groups were unmoved since June, including the transport and logistics group, 1.6pct and the tobacco and beverages group on 6.4pct.

All remaining groups witnessed rises, including educational and health services, 2.5pct, domestic services and home products, 1.3pct, clothing and footwear, 3.8pct and other commodities and services, 2.7pct.
