Facility is Another Strategic Addition to the Company's Operational Network
DUBAI, Nov. 14, 2011--FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world's largest express transportation company, today announced the launch of its new 48,000 square feet facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA). The facility offers customers in the free zone greater connectivity to FedEx global network and more convenience for their shipping requirements. The announcement took place during the company's ongoing sponsorship as the official courier of the Dubai Airshow 2011.
Established in 1985, JAFZA's purpose as a facilitator of investment into Dubai has generated increasing traction over the years. The free zone accounts for 20% of all Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow into the UAE*.
"FedEx Express recognizes the strategic importance of Jebel Ali Free Zone and its long- term business opportunities. Given JAFZA's growth potential, FedEx Express is in an excellent position to provide customers with the most flexible and reliable transportation solutions to match their complex shipping needs," said David Ross, senior vice president, Operations, FedEx Express, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent & Africa.
Key benefits of the FedEx Express JAFZA facility:
- Customers can submit their shipping documents in an automated and paper-less shipping experience using FedEx Electronic Trade Documents (ETD).
- Customers can ship their packages and freight internationally using a variety of FedEx International Priority® services.
- FedEx now offers a next-business-day express service from JAFZA to the GCC, Europe and North America.
- Customers will benefit from the UAE domestic service proposition. FedEx Standard Overnight® and FedEx 1Day Freight® are offered from the JAFZA facility to within the free zone and the entire UAE market.
- A cold storage facility is available for temperature-sensitive shipments.
- Customers will be able to conveniently pick up or drop off their packages at the facility. Its working hours will be from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., six days a week.
The opening of the facility is another strategic move for FedEx in the region. Earlier this year, the company launched its new B777 Freighter intercontinental flight route, which provides significant service improvements for customers shipping among North America, Middle East, India and Europe.
As FedEx is committed to providing global connections while reducing its environmental impact, the new facility's conveyor belt will consume 50% less power and operate with 50% reduced noise levels.
