•Over a 100 students from Lebanon's top universities to participate

•Three Ericsson internships up for grabs

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) today announced the launch of an Ericsson University Competition Day, which is part of its academic engagement program in Lebanon. The contest will see over a 100 students from seven Lebanese universities compete for three Ericsson internships. The theme of the quiz is Evolution of Wireless Telecom from GSM to WCDMA and LTE.

Ericsson launched this initiative to nurture awareness of telecommunications trends and technologies amongst university students. The students will be judged by a panel that includes a number of Ericsson executives and professors from participating universities.

"The students in this competition are tomorrow's leaders in telecoms industry and this experience will bring them one step closer to the real and challenging world of telecoms," said Tarek Saadi, Head of Northern Middle East region, Ericsson.  "This project reflects our commitment to Lebanon, the region and students. We will continue providing them with intellectual initiatives that will help build human capital and local capabilities."

Students will be selected from the top seven universities in Lebanon, which offer Electrical or Communication Engineering programs, based on their academic track record and university recommendations. In addition to winning internships at Ericsson, the top three students will be given top-of-the-line smartphones from Sony Ericsson.  This is a pilot project that started in Lebanon but forms part of a program that Ericsson has recently launched across the MENA region. It mainly aims at boosting innovation and attracting local talents .

"Lebanon's telecommunication market is growing at a tremendous pace. We hope that this competition will help spotlight local talent and provide a platform for students to experience the wonders of telecommunications for themselves," added Saadi.

The universities selected to take part in the program include the American University of Beirut (AUB), Balamand University, Lebanese American University (LAU), Lebanese University, Arab University, Notre Dame University (NDU) and University Saint Joseph (ESIB).
