Erbil - The "Erbil Rotana" hotel which belongs to the Rotana Lebanese Group Companies was opened by the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Barham Saleh.

The opening ceremonies took place in Erbil in the presence of Saleh and Lebanese State Minister Adnan al-Kassar and the Governor of Erbil and a number of ministers in KRG and businessmen.

At the beginning of the opening ceremony, the representative of a Rotana Companies Group, Nasser Nwayyis said that the five-star hotel includes 200 rooms and consists of five main sections, four great restaurants.

"Our group now has 41 hotels across the world, and a number of other hotels is built now, and in 2012 there will be 70 hotels. Rotana Erbil hotel is one of our strategic mission, and gives us an opportunity to contribute to the tourism sector in Kurdistan Region."

While Adnan Kasar, the Minister of State and President of the Lebanese Chambers of Commerce stated that the economic sector will witness significant progress in Kurdistan during the next phase, calling the investors in Kurdistan and Lebanon to get benefit from each other, because the experience of Kurdistan is very advanced.

"Kurdistan region a model of an opened economy because the region opened wide its doors to encourage the investors to come and work there."

While the head of KRG Barham Salih said that "the experience of the Kurdistan region is similar in many ways to the experience of Lebanon... Our people rose up in 1991, but we could not do anything because of the economic embargo imposed on Iraq until the freedom came in 2003, where we made significant gains through the adoption of openness policy."

"The stable security situation in the Kurdistan region, have contributed to the development and growth of the investment sector," noting that "the market of Kurdistan is very important, but I consider it as a gateway to Iraq as a whole."

The foundation stone of the Erbil Rotana hotel was put on July 27, 2008 by the former head of the Kurdistan Regional Government at that time Nashirjan Barzani.
