Dubai - Senior Citi officials, lead by CEO Vikram Pandit, concluded last week a successful 3-day tour of the Middle East.
The delegation called on key officials, regulators and select clients. Meetings were an occasion to reiterate the company's strategic view of the Middle East as one of its top focal geographies going forward with a view to expanding its footprint across main markets.
"Citi's number-one worldwide objective is to deliver extraordinary value for clients, shareholders and our people," said Mr. Pandit. "The Middle East is absolutely essential to that goal and constitutes a core part of our strategy going forward. We are committed to expanding further in the region, and to explore new investment opportunities."
The tour concluded with a visit to the Carnegie Mellon University campus in Doha, Qatar where Mr. Pandit addressed an audience of faculty and students discussing global economic trends, financial industry developments as well as Citi's strategy and restructuring efforts.
Citi has been present in the Middle East for nearly 50 years and views the region as critical to its global franchise. It currently offers full scale corporate banking services across ten Arab countries including Egypt, UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait as well as Pakistan.
Its consumer banking services cover UAE, Egypt, Bahrain and Pakistan, while it maintains close relationships with high networth clients in the region through the Citi Private Bank.
