Salalah: flydubai has expanded its wings with the introduction of its flight to Salalah from Dubai.

The low-cost carrier now operates two routes in Oman with its inaugural flight that touched down at Salalah on Tuesday. The other route is Muscat from Dubai.

For the Oman sector Majan Travels have been appointed as  the General Sales  Agents.

The launch of this new route is justified as the traffic from Dubai to Salalah is set to increase and this development can be tapped to good effect. "Salalah has always been a key destination," noted Kiran Kumar, Commercial Manager (GCC), who was a part of the delegation that arrived from Dubai.

A sister concern of Emirates Airlines, flydubai has seen rapid growth in the last four years since its inception. It has an operational network of 60 destinations -- in the GCC, Mena, Europe, and the Indian sub-continent -- and a fleet of 29 aircraft. It has plans to add 28 aircraft and is awaiting their delivery. The fleet comprising 57 aircraft will give flydubai a chance to add new destinations to its network.

Kumar stated that the airline is young and is in expansion mode.

Omar bin Ghaleb, deputy director-general of the General Civil Aviation Authority,  United Arab Emirates, termed the airline's growth as "phenomenal".

"We are delighted to have launched this route, thereby expanding our connectivity," Ghaleb told a media briefing. "We offer consumers a range of things they can choose from. There is something for everyone, be it travel, leisure, or business. We can also boast of the best in-flight entertainment systems and interiors, ," added Ghaleb.  flydubai's growth has been unprecedented, being the only airline to have broken even in just three years. "Our aircraft take off every nine-and-a-half minutes and therein lies the success of the airline," stated Ghaleb.

Musallam bin Salim Al Rawas, director-general of the Directorate General of Tourism in Dhofar, said the introduction of the flight eases things for tourists and is a welcome boon.

During the reception inside the airport terminal at Dubai, Obaidalla, flydubai's chief commercial officer, said, "With Oman right next door to the United Arab Emirates, there is a long history of tourism and trade between our countries."

Obaidalla inaugurated the new flydubai Travel Shop in Salalah, making it even easier for passengers to book their travel to Dubai.

Salim Al Kathiri, consul-general of the Consulate of Oman in Dubai, said: "As the summer travel season approaches, I look forward to welcoming more visitors from the UAE to Salalah."
