UAE Internet Users To Experience Slow Speeds On Cable Cut -Du

Tuesday, Feb 21, 2012

DUBAI (Zawya Dow Jones)--Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Co., or Du , said internet services in the United Arab Emirates could witness some degradation as a result of an international submarine cable cut early Tuesday.

Du , in an emailed statement Tuesday, said the "degradation of internet services" was due to the undersea FLAG cable cut between Dubai and Oman. The cable cut may affect some internet users who could witness some slowness especially in peak times, Du added.

Du said that it has taken "immediate action to ease the situation by re-routing its traffic over multiple alternative cable systems to reduce the impact of the cable cut."

According to cable operators, the repair process has already started and performance is expected to go back to normal levels within the coming few days, Du said in the statement.
