Turkey Gas Imports From Azerbaijan, Iran To Normalize -Officials

Wednesday, Feb 08, 2012

ISTANBUL (Dow Jones)--Turkey's gas imports from Azerbaijan and Iran will resume at normal levels Wednesday afternoon after technical problems Tuesday dramatically cut supplies, according to industry and government officials.

An official for BP PLC ( BP ), operator of the Shah Deniz platform in Azerbaijan that distributes to Turkey through the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline said Wednesday that the problem had been resolved and normal supply should resume Wednesday afternoon.

Separately, a Turkish government official told television channel CNBC-e that the technical issue with Iran's supply to Turkey had also been resolved and supply would normalize by midday Wednesday.

Tuesday, gas flow into Turkey from Azerbaijan and Iran dropped to a daily 6 million-7 million cubic meters from the usual 40mcm after cold weather prompted technical issues with gas compressors.

Turkey's Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said Tuesday that the problems would be resolved promptly and hadn't affected Turkish gas consumers.
