Saudi Min Inks 3 Deals Worth SAR2.34B For North-South Rail Proj-Report

BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Ibrahim Al Assaf, who is Saudi minister of finance and chairman of the kingdom's Public Investment Fund , or PIF , Saturday signed three contracts worth a combined 2.34 billion Saudi riyals ($624.1 million) for works on the local north-south railway project, state-run Saudi Press Agency, or SPA, reported.
The project is being implemented by Saudi Railway Co., or SAR, which is totally owned by PIF , according to Zawya.com data.
The 2,750-kilometer railway project extends from Riyadh to Al Haditha on the country's border with Jordan after passing through the Saudi regions of Sudair, Qassim, Hail, and Jouf, SPA reported Saturday.
The first contract involves the construction of five passenger stations and the second one entails setting up a complex for maintenance workshops, the news agency said. It said that the third contract involves the construction of 36 buildings, including maintenance workshops and office buildings.
