China OKs Kuwait Call To Build Petchem Complex Along With Refinery-Report
Monday, Dec 05, 2011
BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Kuwait's talks with China about the $9.3 billion planned petrochemical and refinery joint venture are in their final stages and China has agreed that the petrochemical complex be constructed simultaneously with the refinery, Kuwait-based Al Anba daily reports Monday citing executives.
The Chinese side is now fully convinced of setting up an ethylene unit with a production capacity of one million tons a year, unnamed executives at state-run Kuwait Petroleum International , or KPI , told the paper.
The two sides have agreed that construction work should start first at the refinery project then at the petrochemical complex which would be completed six months or one year after the completion of the refinery, the people told Al Anba.
KPI has submitted a proposal concerning the strategic partner to its parent company Kuwait Petroleum Corp. and the identity of this partner is expected to be revealed before the end of the current year, they told the newspaper.
