Iraq Says 32 Intl Firms Buy Documents For 4th Energy Bid Round

BAGHDAD (Dow Jones)--Some 32 international companies, including oil majors, have so far bought data packages for Iraq's 4th energy bidding round, which will auction 12 exploration blocks under service contracts, a senior Iraqi oil official said Monday.
The Iraqi oil ministry has qualified some 46 international companies to take part in the bid round scheduled to be held on March 7.
The purchase of the data packages by these companies mean they are interested in taking part in the bidding round, Abdul Mahdy al-Ameedi, head of the ministry's Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Directorate, told Dow Jones Newswires in an interview in Baghdad.
Ameedi also said a workshop for participating companies was postponed until Dec. 14, instead of the previously announced date of Dec. 5. "The postponement was made because of the Muslim Ashora holidays and has nothing to do with technicalities of the workshop."
The two-day workshop will be held in Amman, Jordan, he said.
The companies that bought the documents are among others, Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA), Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), BP PLC ( BP ), Eni SpA (ENI.MI), Total SA (TOT), Occidental Petroleum Corp. (OXY), Chevron Corp. (CVX), Lukoil Holding (LKOH.RS), Statoil, INPEX Corp. (IPBXHY), JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration or Corp., or JX-NOEX, Mitsubishi Corp. (8058.TO), Sumitomo Corporation and Turkey's TPAO.
